Sunday Streets Returns to Golden Gate Park and the Great Highway, July 7!

070713_GHAt the Great Highway Sunday Streets, on Sunday, July 7 from 11am to 4pm, bikers, walkers, runners, dancers — families and all – will be striding along on a smooth new roadway. Sunday Streets creates a safe, fun, car-free place for people to get out and get active in San Francisco neighborhoods. Free activities, live music, and performances will line the route along Middle and MLK Drives in Golden Gate Park and on the Great Highway. Popular programs at Sunday Streets include free bike repair, skate lessons and rentals, music, dancing, and more. Click here for a map of the route and full list of all the activities.

A fresh surface of pristine asphalt concrete has been installed ahead of schedule along this historic and heavily travelled roadway for drivers and visitors, including four miles from Point Lobos all the way down to Sloat. The project includes a whole new streetscape design at Ocean Beach with pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements to help ensure a safe and fun time for everyone.

The $7 million improvements were brought to the public thanks to the voter-approved 2011 Road Repaving and Street Safety Bond. Learn about this and other city-wide paving programs at sfdpw.org. Thank them for finishing ahead of schedule for Sunday Streets and tell them what you think about the program on Twitter at #greathighway.

Volunteer for Sunday Streets! All of that Sunday Streets fun wouldn’t be possible without our volunteers donating a few hours of their time. With our thanks, all Sunday Streets volunteers receive a stylish volunteer t-shirt, lunch, and that warm, fuzzy, feeling you get from knowing you helped make it all possible. Sign up to volunteer at SundayStreetsSF.com/Volunteer or email liza@livablecity.org.
